What are the additional questions to the updated ESTA application?
As of November 3, 2014, the US government added multiple questions to the original ESTA application to include:
Will the ESTA take longer time to complete with the additional questions?
The ESTA application will take a few more minutes to complete, but the issuance of the travel authorization is still expected to take the same amount of time.
Why are these extra questions asked as a part of the ESTA application?
Since the introduction of the Electronic System for Travel Authorization in 2009, there was no changes to the initial questionnaire until November 2014. The reasons behind the additional questions are related to enhanced security of the US borders, and the government wanting to know more about each visitor visiting the United States.
Citizens of the following countries are eligible to apply for ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization):
Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brunei, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan and United Kingdom.
