AYes. Once an application is submitted, it can take up to 72 hours to be processed. However, in most cases the approval is within 24 hours. For this reason, it is recommended to apply as early as possible. You are not required to submit any specific travel plans in order to apply.
QI am only going to be in the United States for 3 hours transiting on to another foreign country. Do I need a visa waiver travel authorization (ESTA)?
AYes. Transiting through the United States requires an approved ESTA travel authorization. Please be aware that only citizens of Visa Waiver Countries are eligible to apply for ESTA. If you are not a citizen of a Visa Waiver Country, you need to apply for a United States Visitor Visa.
